Our methodology
How we test and rate tools
Every recommendation on Perklyo follows the same process. Here's exactly how we evaluate a tool, score it, and decide whether it earns a place — so you know our picks are based on testing, not marketing.
Last updated: Jul 2026Our process
- 1
Hands-on use
We set each tool up and use it for real tasks — the way you would — instead of summarizing its website.
- 2
Test against a use case
We judge a tool by the job it's for (design, hosting, email, etc.), not by who has the longest feature list.
- 3
Weigh the trade-offs
We note where it's weak, who should skip it, and how it compares to the main alternatives.
- 4
Check pricing & value
We look at real starting cost, free plans, and renewal pricing — and flag that prices change.
- 5
Re-check over time
Tools change. We revisit pages and update them, and we show a 'last updated' date so you can judge freshness.
What our scores mean
We give each tool a rating out of 5, based on five equally-weighted factors:
- Ease of use — how quickly a beginner gets a result.
- Features — does it do the core job well?
- Value — fair pricing for what you get.
- Reliability — performance and consistency in real use.
- Support & docs — can you get unstuck?
A high score doesn't mean a tool is right for everyone — check the "who should skip it" section on each page.
How we handle perks & affiliate links
Many tools we recommend offer affiliate programs, and some give our readers exclusive perks like longer trials. This never affects our testing, scores, or rankings — a tool can't pay to win. We test and rank tools the same way whether they pay us a lot, a little, or nothing. When a great tool has no suitable program, we still feature it. For the full details, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
Perks are a bonus for you — never a reason we recommend a tool.
